Dear White America
Dear White America
It is funny that I have to write you this letter.
Blacks have been broadcasting the same message on your TV screen for over 5 years and I am assuming that you just weren’t watching.
So, I have taken it upon myself to write you a letter because there is no way you can miss this message.
Dear White America
Stop borrowing our culture and not our social issues.
What’s the problem? Our hairstyles, our facial features, our bodies are fashionable as long as you get to ignore our injustices.
Dear White America
Did you see that black boy’s body dancing on the concrete because your favorite officer was trigger happy? Did you attend his funeral? Did you find his death fashionable? I know what you did, you helped your favorite officer make a sandwich and smiled when they gave him paid leave.
I bet you blamed that innocent chalk outline of that black boy for America’s problems.
I bet you laughed when his mother cried at his funeral because she knows like you know, there aint no such thing as justice in White America.
Dear White America
I am sorry that my black scares you, like its been plotting to murder since my birth day.
You got one thing right, my black is dangerous, but I never used it as weapon. You use your white as a trigger warning, then load your gun with ignorance and hold on to your privilege for dear life.
It would be ashamed if someone.. took that from you.
Dear White America
Remember, you are the real thief here. You stole my people, then demanded that we go back to Africa. Do you feel the privilege under your tongue when you say things like that?
Why are you so happy with everything being White?
I assume that you are very good at avoiding mirrors because there is no way, you can stomach staring at your reflection, especially after the election, the protests, the officers who are at home making sandwiches, the black bodies that were too intimidating, so they never made it home.
I hope you wash your hands because there is way too much blood on your fingertips from all the crimes that you have gotten away with.
Dear White America
Did you see that gorilla that was killed at the zoo because that black woman did not watch her son?
I mean, it’s amazing how you can see a gorilla being killed, but you are blind to the fact that Trayvohn had a hoody, a sprite, a bag of skittles and his life was taken because his black scared you.
You are blind to the fact that Eric Garner pleaded that he could not breath to the officer who continued to choke the life out of him.
I guess your favorite officer could not contain their tendencies to make chalk outlines out of black boy’s bodies.
Or did you not see these injustices because you were too busy learning our Ebonics on the Urban dictionary.
Dear White America
You have a cruel sense of humor, especially when it comes to showing love to Blacks. Confrontations are your way of saying hello, your gun or your privilege is your way of saying how are you doing and unfortunately the only way you know how to say goodbye to Blacks is by giving them early funerals.
Dear White America
Can please stop making being Black a trend, while ignoring our plead for justice?
Do not wear our hairstyles, bob your head to our music, scream that you love Black people as long as the discussion of race never comes up.
If you are not willing to stand up for us, then please return our dance moves, our songs, our slang, our facial features and I promise that you can keep your privilege.
You may be too busy making your favorite officer a sandwich after he has killed another black boy.
I’ll be at the funeral, crying because my people don’t know what equality looks like and I’m starting to believe that it is a made-up word.
Sincerely, a black girl who is tired of watching you steal everything while sacrificing nothing.
